In the last two years, I have developed a few applications and one game for Windows Phone 7.
5, primarily as a hobby and for my own entertainment.
My last application, Bolo8, deploys fine on Windows Phone 8, but I found online and documented resources at the time difficult to navigate, so learning the new platform was less than simple.
Jamro’s new book, Windows Phone 8 Game Development offers readers a great introduction to Windows Phone development, using the MVVM methodologies, a concept that both logical and appropriate, but unusually absent in other publications.

History of BoloBolo was a video game released on the Apple II computers in 1982 by Synergistic Software, partly inspired by an earlier novel, Bolo: Annals of the Dinochrome Brigade, which features self-aware, intelligent tanks.
This interpretationAs part of my experiments with the Windows Phone platform and parallel building on the XBLA platform (Xbox Live Arcade), I decided to create an interpretation of the original game as a homage.
There are a few interpretations and clones floating around the internet, but they are either direct clones or re-imagined versions with new features.

An overview of developing a basic application on Windows Phone 7.
5Having recently acquired a Nokia Lumia 800, natively a Windows 7.
5 Phone to use whilst in the United States, I decided it was time to see how easy (or hard) it would be to build a quick app, and break out of the world of the web browser.
IngredientsVisual Studio 2010 Express for Windows Phone*Windows Phone SDK 7.
1 A pinch of Silverlight, XAML and VB.
NETA phone to test it on!For some inexplicable reason, known only to folk in Redmond, the Windows Phone 8 SDK is not yet released, and is only supported in Visual Studio 2012.
As such, for this project, I’ve had to use VS2010.
